Chin Filler Treatments

Chin filler injections can greatly enhance your facial profile by balancing facial proportions, tightening the chin area, and defining the jawline.

The key to achieving the best results lies in careful evaluation of facial proportions and individual features, alongside precise application of high quality dermal fillers.

At my Marylebone clinic, chin filler is used to improve:

  • A recessed or weak chin
  • An unbalanced facial profile
  • Poorly defined jawline
  • The appearance of jowls and a double chin
  • Chin asymmetry

The fillers used contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally hydrating substance found in the body, which restores lost volume and creates structure in targeted areas.

I went to Dr Elgey and had 4 mls of dermal filler which he strategically placed in the temples, cheeks and chin and I am honestly blown away by the results. It’s a real game changer! I went in feeling super nervous but Dr Elgey is so knowledgeable, professional and warm - I quickly felt at ease. We spoke at length about my concerns and then he advised me on where the filler should be placed to get the best results. I had absolutely no bruising afterwards and swelling was minimal. The result is so natural but I look so much younger and fresher. I honestly wish I had done it sooner.

I had a great experience with Paul for lip filler and Sunekos injections. He is attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He took the time to understand my facial structure, how it moved to ensure a nice balanced and natural look. Also appreciate that he isn’t afraid to say no to more treatments so that things don’t look overdone. Will always be happy to recommend!

I had a consultation and UltraClear treatment with Dr Paul for acne scarring with other skin concerns and my experience has been excellent from start to finish. After speaking with several practitioners, what stood out most was Dr Paul’s honesty and knowledge. I never felt pressured into treatment, and he took the time to explain the reasoning behind his recommendations. Throughout the process, he has been incredibly responsive and supportive, answering all of my questions before and after treatment. He also prepared a personalised pre-treatment skincare cream which made me feel very well looked after. The recovery has also gone smoothly thanks to the clear aftercare instructions and Dr Paul’s ongoing support.

Just had a second polynucleotides treatment under the care of Dr Paul. He took time to explain the treatment, downtime and recovery periods. All of this was done within a friendly engaging environment where he encouraged questions. I'm super happy with the results and the professionalism of how Dr Paul consulted me, especially as I had initially wanted tear trough injections but after review advised on a different course, of polynucleotides. Certainly will be back, and can't recommend enough.

Highly recommend Paul. He really put me at ease, showed careful consideration and thought for the fact I was coming to him after having previous filler in my lips dissolved due to migration, and kept me very well informed throughout the process. Clearly highly skilled and I am so happy to have found someone I can trust with my lips for the long term!

The treatment

What is chin filler?

Chin filler is a non-surgical treatment that enhances the shape, size and projection of the chin. Hyaluronic acid based gel is placed on and around the chin to add projection and length, sharpen the transition into the jawline, and bring the lower face into balance with the lips and nose.

It is one of the most popular treatments at our London clinic, ideal for anyone looking to correct a chin that sits back relative to the rest of the face, improve definition, or address chin asymmetry. Because the chin is read in relation to the whole face, Dr Elgey assesses it in profile and from the front and treats for overall facial balance, not the chin alone.

Indications and applications

What Can Chin Filler Treat?

Chin filler is particularly effective for:

Enhance chin projection

Adds volume and length to a weak or recessed chin, improving how it sits in profile and giving the lower face more definition.

Balance your facial profile

Brings the chin into proportion with the lips, nose and jawline, for a more symmetrical and harmonious look from every angle.

Restore a more youthful appearance

Replaces volume lost along the lower face over time, softening the signs of ageing around the chin and jaw.

Refine the result to suit you

Every treatment is tailored to your features and goals, and built up conservatively so the outcome stays natural and in keeping with the rest of your face.

Fit treatment around your life

A quick procedure with visible results and minimal downtime, so you can return to your day with only a little aftercare to follow.

Treatment technique

How Does Chin Filler Work?

Chin fillers work by adding volume and structure to the chin.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are used to create precise contouring and enhancement of the chin, resulting in a more harmonious facial appearance.

Because the chin sets the lower third of the face, small, accurate changes to projection do more for the profile than large volumes ever will. Treatment is planned against your proportions, not a template.

Understand the Science Behind Treatment

What can be treated?

Balancing the chin and jawline brings the lower face into natural harmony with the lips and nose.

Technique and safety

How your chin filler is placed

The best chin filler results come from careful assessment of your facial proportions, the precise, conservative use of high quality hyaluronic acid filler, and treatment carried out only by experienced doctors and nurses.

  • Hyaluronic acid filler, which is reversible with hyaluronidase if ever needed
  • Assessed in profile and from the front, so the chin balances the whole face
  • The filler contains lidocaine, so the area numbs as the gel is placed
  • Dosed conservatively at first, then reviewed and refined once it has settled
  • The chin and jawline settle quickly, usually within 24 to 48 hours

Chin Filler Treatment Protocol

The chin filler treatment protocol at my London clinic typically starts with an initial consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate your suitability for the procedure.

On the day of the treatment, a thorough assessment of the area is performed. The filler is then injected using a fine needle or cannula. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes, with immediate visible results. Post-treatment care involves avoiding applying excessive pressure to the treated area for at least 24 hours.

Doctor-led chin filler

Why Choose Dr Paul Elgey?

The chin is a structural treatment, not a cosmetic one. Placed correctly it balances a profile; placed badly it is immediately visible from the side.

With over 20 years of medical practice and advanced aesthetic training, my focus is:

  • Safety
  • Precision
  • Natural outcomes
  • Long-term skin health

Chin filler works best as part of a plan for the lower face, which is why I assess the profile as a whole before recommending it.

Aftercare

Chin filler aftercare: essential tips for the best results

At Dr Paul Elgey Aesthetic Clinic we focus not only on enhancing your chin's appearance, but on its long-term health and aesthetic balance. Proper aftercare is essential to achieving the best results and a smooth recovery. Here is everything you need to know about caring for your chin after treatment.

Gentle cleansing

After your procedure, use a mild cleanser to gently clean the treated area. Avoid abrasive scrubbing or harsh skincare products that may irritate the skin or cause unwanted reactions around the injection sites.

Be gentle with your skin for the first 48 hours. I suggest a soft cleanser, and patting the area dry rather than rubbing. This helps maintain skin integrity and avoids disturbing the filler.
Dr Paul Elgey

Minimise swelling with cool packs

Swelling and redness are common after filler. To reduce this, apply cold compresses to the chin for 10 to 15 minutes at a time during the first 48 hours. This helps ease any discomfort or swelling.

An ice pack is a great way to manage swelling after chin filler. Just remember to wrap it in a cloth to avoid direct skin contact, and apply it intermittently to reduce inflammation.
Dr Paul Elgey

Avoid touching or applying pressure

For at least 24 hours, avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated area. Pressure can cause the filler to shift before it has properly settled, leading to uneven results. Also avoid sleeping on your face.

I always tell my patients to avoid sleeping on their face for the first night after chin filler. The filler needs time to integrate, so keeping the area free from pressure ensures the best result.
Dr Paul Elgey

Avoid strenuous activity and alcohol

For at least 24 hours after treatment, avoid strenuous activity and alcohol. Both can increase blood flow, leading to more swelling and bruising, and alcohol may interfere with the healing process.

I recommend skipping the gym and steering clear of alcohol for at least a day after your filler treatment. These steps help minimise bruising and allow the filler to settle properly.

Chin Filler FAQs

If you are curious about the procedure, aftercare, or potential side effects, the answers to common questions are below. Every treatment plan is tailored to deliver subtle and natural results.

What types of filler are used for the chin?

Several types of fillers can be used for chin augmentation. Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used, known for their natural-looking results and reversibility; popular brands include Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero. Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers, such as Radiesse, provide a longer-lasting, firmer result.

What technique is used?

Various techniques using both cannula and needle can be employed to achieve different chin enhancements. Each technique is chosen based on the patient’s unique chin anatomy and desired outcome, ensuring a customised and aesthetically pleasing result.

How long does chin filler last?

The longevity of chin filler results varies depending on the type of filler used and individual metabolic factors. On average, hyaluronic acid fillers last between 12 to 24 months. Factors such as the amount and type of filler injected, the area treated, and the individual’s lifestyle can influence the duration of the results.

Are there any risks?

While chin filler treatments are generally safe, they do carry potential risks. Swelling and bruising are common but typically resolve within a few days. Infection is rare, but possible if post-treatment care instructions are not followed. Lumps and bumps can occur but are often temporary and can be massaged out or dissolved if persistent. Asymmetry is rare but possible, and usually correctable with additional filler.
